Unique and industry-relevant qualifications in musical theatre and dance.
Performance Arts Awards (PAA) are group graded examinations in musical theatre and dance, ranging from beginner (Premiere) to advanced (Grade 8). Developed by industry specialists, PAA exams are specifically designed to measure, assess and reward progress whilst encouraging innovation and creativity.
The syllabuses have been written by RSL Awards (UK), who developed the highly regarded Rockschool music examinations that are delivered by AMEB in Australia.
PAA Grade Exams have been specifically designed to give teachers the creative freedom to build a bespoke curriculum around their own teaching styles and existing programme. PAA syllabuses are free-of-charge and teacher registration is not required.
PAA examiners come to your preferred location, where your students are comfortable and can perform to the best of their abilities.
PAA Musical Theatre
PAA Musical Theatre examinations are accessible for all ages and abilities and provide teachers with the creativity and flexibility to enable every child to succeed. The format and content of a PAA Musical Theatre performance is completely up to the teacher. Choosing either a Show or a Group performance, PAA exams are inclusive enabling children to perform together no matter what age or grade.
Musical Theatre Exams are assessed in three key areas:
The Performance – A group piece of musical theatre, performed from memory, in which candidates perform a range of acting, singing and dancing throughout.
Technical Skills Demonstration – Acting, singing or dancing skills demonstrated through a series of short exercises designed to be achievable during a class warm up or technical workshop over a number of weeks.
Understanding and Reflection – The sharing of ideas on the given topic based on the performance seen in the examination in a discussion facilitated by the examiner.
(Vocalists who wish to further develop solo performance skills may present for a grade or diploma examination in AMEB’s Musical Theatre syllabus.)
PAA Jazz Dance
Jazz Dance has become one of the most popular styles of dance for students, professional dancers and choreographers. PAA offers the opportunity for candidates to earn a recognised and quality-assured qualification whilst doing something they enjoy.
PAA Jazz Dance has been created by leading specialists within Jazz and Theatre Dance styles and techniques. There are no membership fees, and free supporting materials are provided to help guide, inspire and motivate students.
PAA candidates are assessed in two core areas of Jazz Dance:
Technical Exercises – Candidates will prepare a series of exercises that display a range of skills within the genre. Exercises encourage the development of strong jazz technique while embedding style and performance skills ensuring the development of fully equipped dancers.
The Performance – The Performance is the final element to the examination and can include any style or variation of Jazz Dance. Teachers have creative control over the content of the group performance creating a truly unique and tailored experience for students.
PAA Street Dance
Designed by leading UK Street Dance practitioners, PAA Street Dance exams will equip your students with an authentic experience that’s true to the historical style of Street Dance.
