Exam Centres

An Examination Centre must be selected on AMEB Connect during the enrolment process, unless an alternative venue has been arranged.

Melbourne Metropolitan Practical Examinations

When enrolling via AMEB Connect, candidates for Melbourne have two options available from the ‘Preferred Venue’ drop-down list: ‘AMEB Studios’ (in Hawthorn) OR ‘Enter a venue number’. If ‘Enter a venue number’ is selected an AMEB Victoria Venue Code is required. Schools and studios with their own venue number should enter it here. If you have permission for your candidates to be examined at a private school or studio enter the appropriate number here. Only the school/studio owner can provide you with their venue number.

Hosting practical examinations

A school or private studio enrolling candidates for a total examining time of three hours or more in a particular subject, during published session dates, can apply to host Practical exams. If you wish to host Practical exams outside the published session dates, please contact us before enrolling candidates to discuss your preferred dates so that we can check examiner availability.

Requests from schools or teachers for practical examinations to be conducted at a venue other than the AMEB Studios in Hawthorn or the official Regional Centres listed above should be made on the Practical Exam Venue Questionnaire (available for download below). Teachers may wish to collaborate to make up three hours of examining time in a particular instrument (see below for more information) and offer a common studio for a particular session. The host school or studio teacher will be responsible for supervision of the examinations. The applicant will be required to forward a completed Practical Exam Venue Questionnaire, together with photographs and a public liability insurance certificate as specified on the questionnaire.

The following instruments may be combined to make up the minimum three hours of examining time for alternative venues (see the Manual of Syllabuses page xv for exam durations):

Violin / Viola
Cello / Double Bass
Clarinet / Saxophone
Oboe / Bassoon
All Brass instruments, including Band
Singing / Musical Theatre
All Rockschool instruments
