Rockschool updates for 2025

Photo ID for Grades 6, 7 & 8

Please note that photo identification is required for all Rockschool Grade 6, 7, and 8 exams.

  • • For face-to-face exams, candidates must present their photo ID to the venue supervisor upon arrival.
  • • For video exams, ID can be shown on camera (except for YouTube submissions) or emailed to ameb-vic@unimelb.edu.au

Important: Do not include photo ID in YouTube videos, as the platform will automatically remove any videos containing personal identification.

New resources

The 2024 Guitar (electric), Bass, and Drums books are available and may be used in the exam. While the syllabus remains unchanged, candidates may continue to use either the 2018 or 2024 editions—or a mix of both—for exam preparation in 2025 and beyond.

Additionally, the Video Graded Certificate technical work requirements for Bass, Electric Guitar and Acoustic Guitar have been updated. Updated copies of the technical work requirements are available in PDF on the Rockschool Australia video exams page.

Changes to video exams

Drums video exam candidates must now ensure that their backing tracks can be heard alongside their drum sound. For more information, please check the video exam guide.

Video exam candidates are now permitted to have a person turn pages in their exam recording. Please note that this does not apply for face-to-face exams. The Video Exam Resubmissions guide includes more information about reasons why your video may be rejected.
