Theory of Music, Musicianship,
Music Craft

Candidates can select from three music theory syllabuses: Theory of Music, Music Craft and Musicianship. Music Craft includes an aural component throughout the syllabus while Musicianship includes an aural component from Fourth Grade onwards. Theory of Music does not include an aural component.

Some assessments can only be taken online, while a limited number of exams can be assessed as paper-based exams.

Enrolling for exams

Enrolments for online Written examinations are made through AMEB Connect. Once an exam is purchased, the enrolling person will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment by email, containing an Exam Key and Exam PIN for each candidate.

The Exam Key and Exam PIN give access to practice and official exams via the SCORE website.

The Exam Key expires twelve months after purchase, but an extension of 28 days may be purchased in the ‘My Candidates’ section of the enroller’s AMEB Connect account.

Exam Requirements

It is essential that teachers and candidates consult the current syllabus for details of specific exam requirements and regulations. AMEB syllabuses are now available as free digital downloads. Choose from a single instrument syllabus, syllabuses grouped by instrument family or the complete Manual of Syllabuses.
