Regional exam opportunities increasing in 2026

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent regional survey. Based on your feedback received from regional enrollers, AMEB Victoria will implement several positive changes in 2026 to provide more flexibility and greater access to specialist examiners across the state.

The following updates to regional exams will be trialled next year:

  • The 1st Regional Session will move to the end of Term 2, running from 9–21 June (entries close 26 March).
  • A new additional Regional Piano Session will run from 7–18 September (entries close 18 June).
  • We will also be increasing the number of regional venues to create more opportunities for candidates in regional Victoria.

The 2nd Regional Session will remain at the end of Term 4, running from 16 November to 16 December (entries closing 13 August).

You may also have seen a recent ABC news report suggesting that generalist examiners are being sent to regional areas. This report related specifically to arrangements in Western Australia. Each AMEB state is an independent body responsible for administering exams in its own jurisdiction, and AMEB Victoria is a not-for-profit registered charity responsible for exams within Victoria.

Our recent regional survey confirmed that Victorian enrollers place strong value on having specialist examiners visit their area. We want to assure you that AMEB Victoria remains fully committed to this. Specialist examiners continue to travel across the state as usual, and with the expanded sessions noted above, we are increasing regional exam opportunities in 2026.
