Our offerings in 2024

Reflections on 2023

After the massive disruptions to music programs in recent years, it was pleasing to see significant increases in enrolments across all levels in 2023. Of special note, Preliminary grade enrolments grew by more than 20% – most likely due to the strong resurgence of foundation and introductory instrumental music programs over the past two years.

Examinations in Grade 7, Grade 8, Certificate of Performance, Associate and Licentiate diplomas were at record levels, reflecting the dedication and resilience of the students who persisted with their music studies during the pandemic.

Examinations in 2024

In 2024, we will offer face-to-face Practical examinations in the usual sessions: 5 Metropolitan, 2 Regional, 2 Special Subjects, 2 Rockschool and 2 Licentiate sessions. 2024 session dates and entry dates may be found here. AMEB Victoria desk calendars have been mailed to teachers and schools who enrolled candidates in 2023. If you are enrolling for the first time in 2024, please contact us if you would like a desk calendar mailed to you.

Teachers and candidates are encouraged to consider enrolling for examination in Term 2 or Term 3, when we are more easily able to accommodate hosting requests and when there are more opportunities to re‑schedule examinations if they are unable to proceed due to unforeseen problems, such as illness.

Practical examinations by pre-recorded video submission will continue to be available from April till November, with enrolments closing in September. Read more>

Written examinations in most subjects will be available online throughout the entire year. Theory of Music grade examinations will also be offered in a paper-based format, on application. Read more>

We look forward to supporting you and your students as they endeavour to achieve their musical aspirations in 2024. Best wishes for a fulfilling year of music-making from Andrew, Grace, Heidi, Jeremy, Matthew, Sarah, and me.
