Practical examinations

AMEB Connect is open to enrolments for video Repertoire examinations until 16 September.

Enrolments for face-to-face Practical examinations will open one month prior to the closing date for entries in the Session.

Video examinations

Music Repertoire grades and selected Rockschool examinations available by pre-recorded video submission.

The video exam performance must be recorded no earlier than three (3) weeks prior to enrolment and submitted no later than 30 November.

Face-to-face Practical examinations

Face-to-face examinations will proceed under COVID-safe protocols in accordance with Public Health Directions. As there continues to be a possibility that face-to-face examinations will be restricted by public health measures, it is suggested that candidates prepare for a Repertoire exam, if suitable, so that they can transfer to a recorded video exam if face-to-face examinations cannot proceed safely.

A school or private studio with examining time of 3 hours or more in a particular instrument may apply to be an examination centre and also may request to host practical examinations outside the published session dates. The following session dates apply to general centres, as published.

Metropolitan Melbourne

A Special Diploma Session for Licentiate, Associate and Certificate of Performance candidates will be held at the AMEB Hawthorn Studios from 21 March to 3 April (entries close 11 February).

All Music and Speech practical subjects except Licentiate Diplomas and Special Subjects are offered in each of the five sessions below.

Regional Victoria

Special subjects (see below) are available in Regional Victoria by special arrangement. Examinations for Associate and Licentiate diplomas not available in Regional Sessions.

Accordion, Harp, Organ, Percussion, Recorder and Rockschool are available in the following Special Subject sessions only (alternative dates and locations might be possible where there is examining time of 3 hours or more in a particular subject).

Written Examinations

Grade examinations in Theory of Music, Musicianship, Music Craft (Preliminary to Grade 4) and Speech & Performance Theory (all grades) are available until 29 December.

Paper-based exams for Theory of Music are available on application. A school or studio with a minimum of ten candidates may apply to host Theory of Music examinations from March through to November (a maximum of two dates per year).

Paper-based examinations in Music Craft Grades 5 and 6 will be offered on Wednesday 17 August 2022. Contact us for further information about the application process.
