Certificate of Performance video examinations 2020

AMEB Victoria is trialling Certificate of Performance examinations using a combination of video submission and online General Knowledge interview. This examination format is available only to candidates who are not able to present for a face-to-face examination due to government health and safety directives.

The requirements of a Certificate of Performance video examination are the same as the requirements for a face-to-face exam. Please refer to the current syllabus for details of examination requirements, including minimum and maximum performance times.

At this level, it is important that the solo and accompanying instruments are capable of enabling the candidate to demonstrate accomplishment of the technical, musical and artistic objectives for the examination and that the candidate’s performance is captured faithfully in the audio-video recording.

Where a work requires accompaniment, it must be presented with the published accompaniment, otherwise the musical performance will lack coherence and stylistic integrity. It is important that a suitably skilled associate artist is employed, and a suitable accompanying instrument is used, as required.

Providing the candidate complies with government health directives about physical distancing and the number of people permitted in the room, a live accompaniment is permitted. The supervisor of the examination recording may also be the accompanist.
