Conferring of Diplomas Ceremony 2019

The achievements of outstanding young musicians who were successful in the 2018 diploma examinations were recognised in the Conferring of Diplomas Ceremony held in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall at the Melbourne Recital Centre on 24 March 2019.

The Occassional Speaker, Professor Gary McPherson, Ormond Chair and Director of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, addressed the large audience of diplomates, parent, teachers, examiners and special guests.

Diplomas were conferred on successful candidates for the Licentiate in Music, Australia (LMusA), the Associate in Music, Australia (AMusA), and the Rockschool Diploma in Music Performance.

Of the 95 successful candidates for the Associate Diploma, 11 received Distinction awards in Cello, Piano, Oboe, Singing, Violin and Viola. The Licentiate Diploma was conferred on 35 successful candidates, of whom 5 received Distinction awards in Piano and Violin. The Rockschool Licentiate in Music Performance was awarded to 7 successful candidates.

The oustanding acoustics of the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall showcased performances by LMusA with Distinction diplomates, Rita Liao on Violin and Matthew Wu on Piano, and an expressive performance was given by Stacey-Louise Camilleri, Victoria’s first female Musical Theatre Licentiate.

Two candidates received more than one diploma at the 2019 Ceremony: Emerson Hsu was awarded the AMusA in Piano and Violin and the LMusA in Piano, Annabel Hsu received the AMusA in Piano and Orchestration & Arrangement.

The following musicians were presented with special awards for outstanding achievement in 2018 AMEB exams:

Samuel Zong LMusA (Flute), LMusA (Piano), winner of the Leslie Barklamb Flute Award.

Bethany Leung & Monika Bimba Joint winners of the Elizabeth Stainkamph Memorial Prize for the best combined result in Grade 8 Piano and Grade 4 Theory.

Nathan Dalton, LMusA (Piano) winner of the VMTA Theory of Music Award.
